Hi, I'm Di and I have been designing and making bears and their friends including kangaroos, dragons and alpacas since relocating to the gorgeous Barossa Valley some years ago.

Incase you're curious about the name 'Woollybutt', it comes from a tree found in Northern Australia. It is a beautiful eucalyptus tree which has striking bright orange flowers and a tree which I used to love climbing as a child on the remote cattle station (cattle ranch) where I grew up. I thought the name was very fitting of those little bears who also have little 'woolly butts'.

For the creation of my bears and critters I take my inspiration from my animals including three cheeky pet alpacas, Kimba, Apache and Riva (pictured below), two red kangaroos, two dogs and numerous chickens who all live happily on our little piece of paradise in the valley!! (See photo of a crisp Barossa Valley winters morning below).

First learning the art of needlefelting in Switzerland about 7 years ago, I have now moved on to using other materials such as mohair, alpaca wool and other quality materials. I am constantly experimenting with new techniques and materials, but sometimes you may still find little needlefelt creations for sale on my website.

I have been fortunate to have been recently awarded two first placings including 'best in show' for their section at the 2010 Hahndorf doll and bear show and placings at bear shows in South Australia and at Woodend Teddy Bear show in Victoria in 2008.

The joy of creating different little personalities from individual unique patterns to hand sewing each little critter is something I really do enjoy. I am fortunate to have a husband who also helps with making accessories as well as performing quality control and preparing the bears or friends for their big trips to new homes.

Thankyou for taking the time to look at my website.
